It was Latin night on DANCING WITH THE STARS: S14 – Week Five and the couples were heating up the dance floor. After a disappointing Rock Week last week, everyone up’ed their game this time and performed their asses off. Four couples, in particular, came to play tonight – Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas, William Levy & Cheryl Burke, Maria Menounos & Derek Hough and Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd. Others failed to ignite any flames on the floor. Melissa Gilbert & Maks Chmerkovskiy fizzled, as did Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff, who likely will not be repeating a win from last season. Bless her heart, Gladys Knight got out there and shimmied and shook all she could but she just couldn’t keep up with partner Tristan MacManus. Jaleel White & Kym Johnson, muddled their way to adequacy, failing to break free from the middle where they have now been stuck for weeks.

Donald Driver (NFL player) and his partner Peta Murgatroyd
Smooth operator! Len Goodman wasn’t as excited, saying only the lifts were fantastic in his Argentine Tango. Carrie Ann Inaba, on the other hand, loved it, calling their dance divine. Bruno Tonioli said it was a fantastic job.
Scores: Inaba – 10, Goodman – 8, Tonioli – 9, Harland – 9

Melissa Gilbert (actress) and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy
She seemed to be rushing through it, running instead of dancing. Goodman said he enjoyed her Salsa. Tonioli thought she provided plenty of fire. Inaba commented on her confidence.
Scores: Inaba – 7, Goodman – 7, Tonioli – 7, Harland – 7

Katherine Jenkins (singer) and her partner Mark Ballas
She was classy and in control throughout. Goodman told her well done. Inaba called her Argentine Tango poetry in motion. Tonioli said she played it to perfection.
Scores: Inaba – 10, Goodman – 9, Tonioli – 10, Harland – 9

Jaleel White (actor) and his partner Kym Johnson
He really can shake it! Tonioli said he got the party started. Inaba thought he attacked the Samba. Goodman said Hip-Hip-Hooray!
Scores: Inaba – 8, Goodman – 8, Tonioli – 8, Harland – 8

Gladys Knight (music legend) and her partner Tristan MacManus
She may not be able to move fast but she is elegant in her moves. Goodman called out her naturalness. Inaba told her she commanded the stage during her Samba. Tonioli said he loved watching her.
Scores: Inaba – 7, Goodman – 7, Tonioli – 8, Harland – 7

Roshon Fegan (Disney star) and his partner Chelsie Hightower
He is flexible and pretty good but not refined. Goodman loved his enthusiasm. Tonioli said he was right on the beat with his Salsa. Inaba said he’s got mojo.
Scores: Inaba – 9, Goodman – 9, Tonioli – 9, Harland – 9

Gavin DeGraw (singer) and his partner Karina Smirnoff
He tried so hard and ended up doing OK. However, Goodman called his Samba a Shamba. Tonioli commented on how he let himself go. Inaba told him he was lacking form.
Scores: Inaba – 6, Goodman – 6, Tonioli – 7, Harland – 7

William Levy (actor) and his partner Cheryl Burke
Soooo hot! He redeemed himself form last week. Goodman called his Argentine Tango Sensual and colorful. Inaba called him the Latin dancing James Bond. Tonioli said he was throbbing with intensity.
 Scores: Inaba – 7, Goodman – 7, Tonioli – 8, Harland – 8

Maria Menounos (TV host) and her partner Derek Hough
They really did kiss this time! Goodman was impressed calling Menounos a terrific dancer. Inaba called her Salsa hot. Tonioli said that’s the way he liked it.
Scores: Inaba – 9, Goodman – 9, Tonioli – 9, Harland – 9

Who’s Going Home: Likely it will be DeGraw or Knight.

Who Has Legs To Take Home The Mirror Ball:
Three-man/woman race – Driver, Jenkins and Levy with Menounos coming up in their rear-view mirror.  Stay tuned…

Comments:

  1. J. R. Martinez was decent in Season 13 but he was popular because he was a vet who had lost half of his face. If he was competing with this group and if the dancers wee rated on PERFORMANCE he COULD NOT BEAT Katherine Jenkins … William Levy … Maria Menounos … Roshon Fegan … or Donald Driver … who is clearly a better dancer than some of the NFL players who have WON in past seasons. it’s a shame that some of the aforementioned aren’t going to win because if dancing ability counts … rather than popularity … Katherine Jenkins should win because she is as good as anyone who has ever danced on this program.
