With THE AVENGERS becoming one of the most successful superhero movies of all time, all eyes are on IRON MAN 3 to now carry that super boxoffice mantle.
While at Comic-Con 2012, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explains what IRON MAN 3 means to the studio.
“IRON MAN 3 is the beginning of the next phase and will set the tone in many ways,” says Feige. “It’s a self-contained story as we have done since IRON MAN 1.”
Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as the brilliant Tony Stark aka Iron Man with writer-director Shane Black taking over from previous helmer Jon Favreau. For Black, he admits there still is very much a love story at the core of the movie.
“The remarkable thing Jon Favreau managed to do when he forged these movies was establish a precedent of a TOP GUN style of thrills coupled with romantic comedy and in a strange way it’s been a mainstay of these movies and it’s part of my favorite thing too,” says Black.
Don Cheadle as Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes and he says War Machine will be back.
“Yes, I do suit up in the new IRON MAN,” he says.
For Downey, when asked by a young reporter how it feels to be a hero in these movies, his response was very heartfelt.
“There was just this photo thing where all these kids showed up as Iron Man and a couple as War Machine and there’s something about it … wow – what a great opportunity,” says Downey Jr. who pauses and then adds “I take it as seriously as Shakespeare.”
IRON MAN 3 opens May 3, 2013
