It almost seems as thought the various plotlines of REVENGE are spinning out of control in this week’s episode, “Loyalty.” Of course, the problem with being angry is that you tend to alienate the people you can least afford to, and Emily (Emily VanCamp) is certainly heading that direction, having issues with her mentor Satoshi Takeda (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Nolan (Gabriel Mann).

Just a refresher to (hopefully) eliminate confusion – Emily Thorne is really Amanda Clarke, whose father, David Clarke, was arrested for somehow bringing down a plane full of people, which he didn’t do. She swapped names with the real Emily Thorne, who is now masquerading as Amanda Clarke (Margarita Levieva).

Saloon owner Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler) has revived his boyhood crush for Amanda (the real one) and is now falling for the girl he thinks she is, and Amanda seems pretty happy to go with that. Oddly enough, Emily is letting it happen.

The big issue, though, is with the Graysons, Victoria and Conrad (Madeleine Stowe and Henry Czerny), who are the objects of Emily’s ultimate revenge, never mind that Emily is falling in love with their son Daniel (Josh Bowman). Conrad has officially filed for divorce, leaving Victoria feeling rather adrift and scheming to get her children back with her. Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) isn’t buying it. Daniel, maybe.

Then there’s Daniel’s slimy friend Tyler (Ashton Holmes), who is on some kind of drug that I think I should have recognized and didn’t. Funny how Daniel suddenly got a hold of a recording of Tyler’s tryst with Nolan – who is supposedly helping Emily with her revenge. Tyler, however, knows about David Clarke and uses that to cover his backside with Conrad, after Daniel shares the recording with his father. Problem is, Tyler’s not happy about the recording and goes to Nolan about it, who in turn, knows who got the recording. Emily could be in some deep doo-doo here.

Add one Japanese mentor, who is not happy that Emily has feelings for Daniel, no matter how much she denies it and things could get sticky. One more potential issue, the lawyer that decided not to take up David Clarke’s last appeal is now representing Victoria in the divorce and is promising that things could get ugly. Which should be interesting, assuming we can keep it all straight.
