With one more episode to go before the Season 4 finale, the hard question begins as to whether or not next week might be the series finale of CHUCK.

Certainly the show has escaped cancellation so many times, this year, would seem no different (and victory is always there). Yet, as much as we can hope, there are elements within “Vs. The Last Details” that feel almost as if the show’s writers and producers are aware that things are winding down and are at least prepping fans with some kind of closure to the twisty turny four years of the spy series.

With a week to go before they exchange their vows, Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) think they’re getting a week off from the CIA, but find that they’re sucked right back in when Mom Bartowski (Linda Hamilton) aka Frost is kidnapped by Vivian Volkoff (Lauren Cohan) and her henchman Riley (Ray Wise).

Apparently they’ve finally made the Norseman device work, which essentially takes an intended victim’s DNA and with pinpoint accuracy can kill them from any spot across the globe with a push of the button. It’s 100 percent accurate.

Now Chuck, Sarah and Casey (Adam Baldwin) have to find a way to retrieve Mrs. Bartowski and stop the Norseman device from being sold to the highest bidder.

Things go slightly awry during the mission, as Morgan (Joshua Gomez) is called into action for the first time to play a bad guy (he’s the only person Vivian hasn’t seen).

By episode’s end, Vivian is told the truth that her father is Agent X (she thought it was Chuck) and Riley is killed. Throughout, Riley is trying to groom Vivian into being a bad guy (even though, technically, it’s not in her blood since her dad is in fact a good guy brainwashed by the Intersect into making him think he’s a good guy). She still has it out against Chuck and during his rehearsal dinner, Vivian uses a spare Norseman device to hurt someone close to him.

SPOILER ALERT …

And that person is Sarah. As next week’s previews showcase, Sarah isn’t dead yet, but she’s not out of the woods and next week’s finale looks action packed and filled with tons of additional drama.

“Vs. The Last Details” is an excellent episode filled with tons of great comedy bits, cool action and Morgan getting a chance to play real spy.

The Morgan stuff is awesome. It’s funny in the old way Chuck used to be on missions and the love/hate relationship between him and Casey continues to be endearing.

Tons of STAR WARS references fill out the episode too, and it must have cost a pretty penny to nab John Williams’ Darth Vader theme, but it was well worth its inclusion for a key moment.

Another great bit includes Lester (Vic Sahay) and Jeff (Scott Krinsky) helping put together the rehearsal video montage of Chuck and Sarah with some hilarious results.

The rehearsal dinner, in particular, is where, as a fan, I got the sense that things were coming to an end. It was very touching, well written and had a reminder of how far the show has come as well as the relationship between Chuck and Sarah.

I’m still not sure how much I buy Vivian becoming the Big Bad, though this episode certainly sheds some light into how mentally screwed up she is. I’m also thinking that Vivian is actually Chuck’s half-sister by the way Mom Bartowski acted when Vivian was potentially in danger.

How CHUCK will conclude the season is a mystery, though the title for next week is “Vs. The Cliffhanger.” With each season finding a way to top the previous year in leaving fans hanging, let’s hope time hasn’t run out for CHUCK, because, I , like many fans, am not ready for it to be over yet.
