TCM (Turner Classic Movies) kicked off the TCM CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL 2011 at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, with an Opening Night Gala and World Premiere of the Newly Restored 1951 film AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, which corresponded with the 60th anniversary of its original release.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a colorful musical about a painter finding art and romance in the City of Lights. The movie starred the late Gene Kelly, who passed away in 1996, and Leslie Caron, who attended the gala presentation. The musical score is packed by Gershwin classics, and the dance sequences are among cinema’s most memorable. Directed by Vincente Minnelli, the film won six Oscars, including Best Picture.

The TCM CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL, runs April 28th to May 1st in Hollywood, holding more than 70 screenings, as well as special introductions, guest appearances, panel discussions and more. TCM Host and film historian Robert Osborne served as the official host of the festivals.

Many of Hollywood greats, and some stars from current Hollywood, walked the red carpet, which included: Leslie Caron, Anne Rutherford, Anne Jeffreys, Kate Flannery, Anya Monzikova, Ana Alexander, Barbara Rush, Diane Baker, Alexis Gershwin, Jerry Mathers, Alicia Arden, Leonard Maltin, Illeana Douglas, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Marshall Allman, Jamie Allman, Juliet Mills, Hayley Mills, Peter O’Toole, Chris Isaak, Rose McGowan, Herb Jeffries, Priscilla Presley, Ben McKenzie, Marni Nixon, Dorothy Herrmann, Grey Damon, Eva Marie Saint, Jeffrey Hayden, Patricia Kelly, Jane Withers, Margaret O’Brien, Brandon Barash, William Mapother, Andy Marx, Richard Roundtree, Tippi Hedren, Mary Ann Mobley and George Chakiris.
