Joe Mantegna was honored with the 2,438th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 29th in the Category of Live Theater. His star will be right next to his favorite actor Errol Flynn and is located in front of Skooby’s at 6654 Hollywood Boulevard.

The event started with Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, President/CEO Leron Gubler talking about Mantegna and his career in theater, besides the many movies and TV shows he has appeared in.

Hailing from Chicago, Gubler read a telegram that came from musical group CHICAGO, who are long-time friends of Mantegna. The telegram said. “To a great guy, fellow musician and long-time dear friend. You’ve sure come a long way from walking Chicago’s West Side to the Walk of Fame. We’re so very proud of you, Arlene and the girls. And as musician, you’re a great actor. You are welcome to play with us anytime. Much love and congratulations from your friends in Chicago: Walt and JacLynn Parazaider, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, Jimmy Pankow and Peter Schivarelli.”

A lot of fans know him from his role in CRIMINAL MINDS, and his reccurring role at the voice of Fat Tony on THE SIMPSONS.

David Mamet, who wrote the play GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, which Mantegna was awarded the Tony for and Joseph Jefferson Award, talked about his friendship with Mantegna and presented him with a “crowbar, which he had imprinted on it “To Joe  – From Dave – April 29, 2011 – Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Also, speaking was Lt. General Willie Williams to honor Mantegna for his work with the National Memorial Day Concert in Washington DC, co-hosted by Gary Sinise. Mantegna, along with Sinise raised thousands of dollars for Operation Iraqi Children, which gave school supplies to children in Iraqi and Afghanistan and were delivered by US Military Troops. These are just two of the many charities all over the world that he works with.

When Mantegna finally took the podium, the sound went off, but as he stated, “I can project, I’m from the theater,” which he did until the sound came on. At least they were able to stop the workers drilling across the street while the ceremony took place!

Joining the star on this special day was his wife Arlene, his daughter Mia and Gia, and Will Mantegna. Also joining Mantegna: Andy Garcia, Clifton Collins Jr., Tom Dreesen, Lee Purcell, Stan Shaw, Dennis Franz, Ed Lauter, and from CRIMINAL MINDS – Shemar Moore, Kristen Vangsness, A.J. Cook, and Rachel Nichols.

Congratulations Joe!
