While speaking with John Noble at last week’s Saturn Awards where he took home a Best Supporting Actor prize for his work on the Fox series FRINGE, ASSIGNMENT X caught up with him for this exclusive chat about the forthcoming Season 4.

While he was tight-lipped about revealing too many secrets, he did give his thoughts on what he would like to see happen now that Joshua Jackson’s character Peter has ceased to exist on the show after saving the universe in the Season 3 finale.

“I haven’t talked to the writers,” Noble admits. “I try to get stuff out of them. ‘Can you tease?’ I want to know what’s going on. All know is we’ve made Peter disappear. Walter has learned that we had to sacrifice Peter to save the universe. If Peter hadn’t been born or died, there would be no rift in the universe.”

After telling the writers that “I don’t want to lose Josh” – the actor that is, Noble says he was told, “No, Josh is contracted.”

Now Noble says the trick is finding a way to bring him back.

“What are we going to do?” Noble asks. “Somehow they’re going to have to weave this extraordinary thing back into the world and I can’t wait to find out.”

One of the most enjoyable aspects of shooting FRINGE for Noble is the chance to play both the kindly Walter in our world and the more devious Walternate “Over There” in the alternate universe.

“Walter is so fun, but Walternate is a very fine character too – particularly since I get to play younger and older versions of both of them,” admits Noble.

One thing Noble would like to see happen in Season 4 is for the two incarnations make peace with one another.

“I want to see Walter and Walternate resolve their conflict,” says Noble. “I want to see that full on.”

As for his favorite episode of the third season, Noble admits it’s a tough call.

“I like ‘Bloodline’ a lot, but I also liked ‘Firefly,’” the actors says. “Let me call it ‘Firefly,’ because it was such fun working with Christopher Lloyd.”
